Vape mod batteries come in various sizes, colors, and brands and for a new user choosing the right one can seem intimidating. Most modern vape mods don't come with the batteries they need to function, but this is a good thing because it gives you the option to choose the batteries that fit your needs and budget best.
While there are many sizes of batteries on the market the two most common are 18650 and 26650 batteries. These numbers refer to the size and shape of the battery. For example an 18650 battery is 18mm wide and 65mm long. The zero at the end signifies that the battery is round. A 26650 battery is just as tall as an 18650 battery, but it is 26mm wide. It is important to learn which size battery your mod needs and stick with that.
Once you know which size battery you need the next thing to look at are the batteries ratings. The two ratings to look at are Milliamp Hour (mAh) and Amperage. These ratings let you know how the battery will function under normal conditions.
An easy way to think about a battery's mAh rating is to consider it a way to measure of battery life expectancy. The higher the mAh rating, the longer the battery lasts before it needs to be recharged. Of course battery life can vary greatly from user to user based on the coil or tank they use with their mod, what wattage or temperature setting they use, and how frequently they vape, but mAh is a good standard to base your expectations of battery life from. For example if two people use identical vape mods and tanks at the same settings and vape at the same frequency whichever one using batteries with a lower mAh rating will have to charge their batteries sooner.
The Amperage limit of a battery describes how much of a draw can be put on the battery before it will start to malfunction. When using a mechanical mod this means that you have to make sure that your coils resistance is high enough to draw less amps from your battery than its amp limit. With regulated mods there are many safety features built-in which will not let the battery exceed its amperage limit, so this is less of a concern.
Although there are many batteries on the market that seem to work differently from each other, it's clear that they all function in the same way, but with varying performance based on their mAh rating and their amperage limit. With this knowledge you can feel confident in choosing the right battery for your vape mod.
